San Lihn

Hello!

This week was the Chinese New years. So Hong Kong, especially Yuen Long felt kind of empty because a lot of people here go to Mainland China for the New Year. So for the new year I have heard a ton of drums, fireworks, and everyone here wears like a red Chinese jacket thing with dragons on it. If it isn't red, it has dragons on it. It has been a pretty cool sight. Also the people have work off so i have been seeing a lot more families walking around which is really unusual because most people here work all day long and so people are usually just walking around by themselves.

This week on Tuesday we didn't have much going on. We went to  do the zone find and I got to be with Elder Lagana who is from the Philippines and is 26 years old. He also just got to Hong Kong on his mission. It was really cool going to find with him and hearing about his life story and helping him learn Cantonese.

Wednesday was Cross Roads our weekly service activity. We didn't really have anything else that day besides our studies and ward correlation.

Thursday we visited some less actives and taught about agency. The mom was really happy because she is active and her two daughters are less active and she was super happy we came by. We invited them to attend our talks that we would be giving on Sunday for new years. And they came!

Friday we just gave out red Chinese decorations. We hoped it would stop people because the Chinese love these decorations because I has a blessing on it and they leave it up all year until next Chinese new year. But this idea didn't really work because people ended up just taking the decoration and then saying thanks and walking away.

Sunday we gave talks. This is my second talk that I have had to give. And to make this one worse a member from the 70 was attending ha ha. It was kind of scary but I spoke on Christ and His charity! It ended up going really well.

That is all. Love you all.

This is what a typical house looks like. Just one room and then a side small room for the bed room. This is a less actives house.
Here is the sketchiest mode of transportation here. a Siu ba! These mini buses have crazy drivers that just weave in between cars, people, and bikers. It is actually kind of fun to ride in one however.
We had zone conference on Saturday and they taught us about some Chinese characters that just further prove our religion. Since Chinese is the oldest way of writing in the world, the characters used here have been used since way before the birth of Christ. The top character is a tree and then one on the second line is a woman. Then below that if you combine the two, it means prohibited which is interesting because Eve took the forbidden fruit from a tree and she is a women. I found this very interesting. Then almost every religion has some sort of writing of a supreme being that has visited them and the word for god is a mix of three words: See Sun and Pillar. This is kind of cool because it is like the Joseph Smith story and it just goes to show that even the Chinese people way back a long time ago have seen God in one big pillar of light. It was very cool to learn this.

The kids here are dressed in their Chinese new year outfit. You might not be able to see it because my camera is awful but they all have dragons on their shirts.
Just some more Chinese decorations and costumes.
These are little red packets that people hand out all the time for Chinese new year. It usually has money in it but when we get money we have to give it back to the church for fast offerings.
