I Don't Know What Week I am On But My Birthday was This Week!

Leih hou!

Well this last week was my birthday and it convieniently was on last Pday so to start off the week some members took us to a really good steak house that had some american food! That was really good and it made me really happy because they bought me some dessert as well! The members here are so nice!! we also went to 10,000 buddhas which was insane! there were literally a million buddha statues that lined both sides of a hiking trail all the way up the mountain!

After that we went back to our normal schedule which is:

wake up at 7 adn then go exercise which is usually playing soccer on the outdoor courts or playing basketball

we then eat breakfast and study for 3 or 4 hours

then we have lunch

then we go out finding or go teach a lesson

then we come back for dinner

and then we head back out to go finding or teach another lesson.

Finding is really hard and long work becaue I can still only have simple conversations with people but I am getting better! other than that nothing really happened this week. We did have a bunch of people that we were going to teach just not show up for lessons. This happened like 4 times thsi week so we didn't really get to teach that much.

We also went on a hike with the members on thursday and went through the nature part of my are which was really cool it was unlike anything I have ever seen!!

Please let me know how you all are doing! I love you all!!

Leih hou!

Well this week is my first week in Hong Kong! The plane ride here was so long!! 17 hours of just straight flying. when I got off the plane I couldn't find one of my bags until one of the baggage reclaim fellas came up to me and said they had lost it and would get it back as soon as possible. it was way hard for me to understand what he was saying because he was speaking chinglish. And every where people were speaking cantonese. I thought I had learned this language in the MTC but I didn't understand any of it! It was insane!

Well the first two nights we stayed in a really nice hotel! The first food that I had was their breakfast and that was amazing! In Hong Kong they have all these insanely good breads. There are thousands of diffferent kinds of breads that are all amazing and smell better than any bakery that I have been in in Utah!

The second day here we went on temporary splits to go our finding. And when we did this my first thoughts were I am completely lost!! the city is so freaking big! The buildings here all have more than 50 floors which is insane! I asked the person who I was on temporary splits with how long it took him to get to know his way around and he said this to me, "it took me a long time and even now I get lost a lot and sometimes your trainer will even get lost" So that just kind of explains how big the city is and how many people there are here.

We got our companions the next day. My companion is Elder Henrichsen! he is a really cool guy and really nice! We have been getting along really well! I enjoy him alot! He is from washington and will to to Utah state when he gets back! He likes video games which is really cool! Our apartment is on the 28th floor of a building in Yuen Long (Yuen Long is our area) and the apartments are really small. From my apartment you can see mainland china and the huge city right across the boader! There are 4 missionaries in our apartment and the other two are Elder Stober and Elder Adams. Elder Adams is from my MTC group which has been really helpful to me because I have someone I know in our room!

The people in hong kong are ALWAYS busy! They hardly have time to stop. When we go finding it is really hard to get people to listen to us because they never have time. And everyone here is addicted to there phones. In the trains nearly 70% of the 800000 people that are squished into the trains have their ear phones in and are watching something on their brand new Iphone! The people here are alos really random... we would go out finding and there would be people stretching and doing yoga out side while swinging some swords around. There was this one person who took his pet turtle on a walk in a park which was funny. And everyone here has really nice cars. you will be walking down the street and see about 5 Teslas in a row all parked. The most common cars I see here are: Teslas, porches, BMWs, Ferarris, and the ocassional Lambourgini. So people here like their cars.

Other than that I have been really overwhelmed with everything. There is always something going on and it is really busy! Today we are going to go see the 10000 buddhas which will be really cool so you guys will probably see pictures of that next monday!

The language here is really hard! I went to church and understood probably about 5% of the 4 hours i was there! Most people here are good with the language after about 7 months. my companino has been here for over a year and is really good a the language and he is now leanring the characters. Here you have the chance to learn like 3 or 4 languages: spoken cantonese, traditional characters, simplified characters, chinese sign language, and a little bit of mandarin. I plan on learning the characters and maybe a little sign language but for now I want to focus on being able to speak cantonese first which will take me a while!

Please email me about anything! well I have hardly any time to email you guys! I love you all pleae email me about anything

Leihdeih hou!

So this is my last Pday in the Provo MTC! I don't know when I will be able to email you all again, so if you have always wanted to tell me something then now is the time! The next time I will email you all is when I will be in Hong Kong!

This week has been really cool, fun week! On Monday we taught our 2nd Skype TRC with someone in Hong Kong! It was really interesting because when we were coming up with a lesson to teach we didn't know what to teach on. My companion and I didn't know if we would get the same investigator as the last week we taught TRC so we had a hard time coming up with the lesson until we prayed about it. We prayed about it and then we both thought we should teach on repentance. We put together a pretty good lesson on repentance and then headed over to the computer lab to Skype. The lesson went really well. And even though I couldn't understand a lot of what our investigator was saying, I could feel the spirit! She kept asking a lot of questions which seemed unusual because a lot of the times investigators just listen and act like they are interested in our message but we could really tell this investigator really was interested and cared about our message! After we finished our Cantonese teacher got feed back from this investigator and this was the cool part. When we read the feed back, it said that we had answered all of the questions our investigator had on repentance and she had really felt the spirit! This was really cool because it just proves the power of prayer is real and can help us with whatever needs we may have!

Other than that, nothing really new has been happening. We have continued to teach our role play investigators (our language teachers) and they have been progressing really well and are going to get baptized the day before we leave for Hong Kong! This has been a really cool experience because our teachers are role playing as investigators who they taught when they were in Hong Kong! It has been very spiritual watching them grow closer to Christ and this Gospel!

We did go out and play soccer for exercise this week which was really good for me! We played against the new missionaries that are going to Hong Kong. There is this one new missionary (Elder Cox) who is from England and loves soccer sooo much. It is funny because every Pday he dresses up exactly how you would if you were going to go play in a soccer game. He has the long socks and he even brought his cleats. But the funny thing is that if you look at him you would think he would be pretty good at soccer because he loves it so much and probably played as much as he could in England but when we actually started to play he wasn't even that good hahah! He was better than this kids that didn't play soccer but he wasn't the very best. One time I got the ball and he was playing defense on me and I nut megged him and he got pretty mad because I don't think he was expecting me to be pretty good at soccer! But he is a really cool kid! I love playing soccer with him!

I would love to hear from all of you before I head off to Hong Kong! Send pictures, sports updates, or just let me know how things are going! I would love anything!

Ngoh ngoi leihdeih (love you all)

My companion and Elder Siddoway's companion on the ground floor... I was testing to see how good my camera was.
Since this month is October and Halloween is coming up we received a pumpkin with the chinese characters carved into it. The characters say "family".
Everyone was taking pictures of me so I decided to take a picture of them. (Elder Frey in the background).
This is where we do our study time!
This is Elder Dudfield who is from Australia and is in my district! He is the best dude and he has a pretty wicked accent!

Leih hou muih yat go yahn!

This week has been really cool and interesting! On Tuesday we were able to do a Skype TRC with the members of the church who are currently in Hong Kong! That was super cool because we talked to a girl who loved her family and we were able to talk to her about how through Christ we can live with our families forever! And surprisingly my companion and I could understand most of what she was saying over the computer! I was surprised! It was probably because she was talking pretty slowly. But that was a really cool experience!

This week was also super cool because we got our full Cantonese names. Mine is Gu hei sahm. In English it would be directly translated to Gubler abram. The word for Gubler (Gu) is just a surname so it doesn't really have any meaning but then my first name (hei sahm) is cool because when you say it, it kind of sounds like "Abram" and it means precious sincerity! I thought that was super cool because our names were supposedly picked based off our personality.

This week we got new Cantonese missionaries and it was really cool to see them! They were all how i was like when i came in. They had no idea what was going on because the first class you go to is the teacher speaking 100% Cantonese to you and you have no idea what they are saying. It is also cool because we get to help them!

General Conference was super spiritual! It was probably the most conference i have ever watched in my life but this time I actually enjoyed it! I really loved President Eyring's talk about how when a hurricane hit some people, instead of worrying about their own problems, went and helped repair the properties of other people. This was a way powerful message to me because I cannot focus on the problems that I have, I get to focus on serving others!

Please let me know how you all are doing! I miss you all and love you all so much more than you know! Anything helps! I love getting sports updates and hearing about the news!

ngoh ngoi leihdeih! (I love you all)

We had to say goodbye to Elder Ipsen this week!  He has been an amazing example to me and has been one of my best friends! There is no better person to go be serving the people than him!

This is a picture of Elder Siddoway in deep prayer. (not really praying he just posed for the picture)
We made a list of our first names on the bored and then had the teachers try to guess what our first names were and both our teachers thought I looked like a Caden
